If you are wanting to give oil infusions a go at home, I thought I would share my simple way that I infuse herbal oils using the slower method of solar and lunar infusion. This is a really great way to start using the herbs you've grown and dried at home.
Depending what my oil is for I will often create ritual, set intentions, create the oil infusion on certain moon or astrological cycles, and use crystals placed on the lid of my jar while it’s infusing to add an extra layer of magick to the oil.
Step 1: Get a clean jar with a lid.
Step 2: Put in your dried botanical material in your jar, fill ⅓ to ½. Depending on what botanical material you are using, more delicate petals and herbs ½ fill with the more resionous herbs ⅓ fill).
Step 3: Cover the material with minimum 3cm above the dried material.
Step 4: Put your jar out in a sunny spot and leave out for six weeks, gently tip over jar daily to mix material through oil.
If the weather gets over 25°C, I move my oil to a shady spot over the hottest part of the day.
While the plant material is in the oil, the oil will stay fresh.
Step 5: Using a muslin cloth or fine mesh seive, seperate the dried material from the oil.
Put your dried material into the compost or back onto the earth.
Step 6: Put your oil into a sterilised dark coloured (to minimise light) glass jar, label, and store in a cool place out of direct sunlight.
