Last month I tried a new face lotion recipe from my Botanical Skin Care Recipe Book (Herbal Academy) and I’m loving it so much that I thought I would share it with you all. I have made a few changes, as some of the ingredients are harder to get here in NZ, but found similar substitutes that were easier to locate and were better suited to my skin type.
I haven’t named it yet so at the moment its just the ‘My Face Smells Like Flowers’ lotion.
INGREDIENTS:
¼ Cup Sweet Almond Oil
4 tsp Apricot Kernal Oil
3 tsp Beeswax
2 tbsp Rose Hydrosol
¼ tsp Vitamin E Oil
20 drops Lavender Essential Oil
10 drops Rose Geranium Essential Oil
20 drops Neroli Essential Oil
½ tsp Geogard Ultra (Preservative)*
DIRECTIONS:
Gently heat oils and beeswax in a double boiler (you can use a jar, glass, or ceramic bowl over a small saucepan of simmering water if you don’t have one) until it’s melted. Stir thoroughly to ensure ingredients are well-blended. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
Once oil mixture has come to room temperature and looks semi-solid, stir in vitamin E oil.
If using a natural preservative that needs to be added to the water phase, add now to hydrosol and stir well: otherwise, wait until after cream has emulsified.
Using an immersion blender or hand mixer, gradually add the hydrosol to the oil and wax misture in a thin stream until mixture becomes white and creamy. Avoiding overmixing.
Stir in the essential oils.
Pour into sterilised jars or bottles and label.
Keep refrigerated.
* If you don’t use a preservative it's recommended to use it within 1-2 weeks.
